Jay Rushforth, Founder
From electrical engineer to project manager, product designer to business development strategist, Jay Rushforth has been a top level engineering professional for over 15 years. Having spent much of his career in both the product development and construction industries, Jay offers a unique blend of design and technical construction savvy, Before SPEC, Jay spent seven years in construction engineering with a focus on electrical and power architecture. During his tenure with CHI and MIT, he expanded this experience well beyond electrical, where he joined the building envelope committee at MIT, initiated several extensive cost-saving inspection programs, and commissioned construction projects exceeding $300M. Prior to that, Jay dedicated eight years to the research and product development industry for Physical Sciences Inc. where he largely contributed to the condition-based monitoring team managing and engineering several $1M grant-based projects that became commercially successful. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of New Hampshire (2000) and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Northeastern University (2006). Above all, Jay thrives on understanding a technical challenge and providing a multi-disciplined approach to achieving great results; combining diverse engineering experience with unconventional industrial design solutions.
A little history…
When Captain John and Elizabeth Locke settled at Locke's Neck it was part of the town of Hampton, NH. In 1723 several citizens petitioned the legislature to create a new town out of a piece of Hampton. This new town, where Locke's Neck or Point is located, was named Rye. The name of Locke's Point, after two hundred years, was changed to Straw's Point when Ezekiel A. Straw, Governor of New Hampshire in 1872-1874, erected the first summer home well out toward the shore on the Point.
Today, Straw’s Point has become one of New Hampshire’s premier surfing locations with a terrific point break that keeps east coast surfer’s coming back. What started off as a surf, boat, and beach attraction for the founder of SPEC, became a place to call home. This home eventually became SPEC headquarters; a place to help study problems as they are and help engineer solutions that never have been.
